Workout Week 10 – Learning to Navigate When Pain Meets Progress

Progress does not always feel like progress especially when you are sore.

This week was a reminder of that.

On my first weight training day I used the hack squat machine for the first time. I have done a lot of back squats, so I assumed it would feel similar. The weight was not extreme, but the angle and movement hit a different part of my hamstring and glute.

By the next day it showed. The kind of soreness that limits you. The kind of delayed soreness that shows up a day later and catches you off guard.

It is ironic. You can train for years and still get surprised by something that looks almost the same.

Small changes create completely different stress. Like playing a different sport, your body reminds you it is something new.

For a couple days I was moving at about sixty five percent. That is where the real decision shows up. Do you stop completely or find another way to continue.

This week I chose to navigate it.

I shifted weight training to upper body to give my lower body time to recover. I considered lighter lower body work, but decided against it. Cardio stayed consistent and training stayed on schedule, even if the intensity shifted.

By Friday I was back closer to eighty five percent and was able to ease back into lower body.

Looking back it was a simple week. Six active days, three weight training sessions, three cardio days.

But the lesson was not in the volume. It was in how to respond when pain meets progress.

Not all soreness means stop. Not all days need to be at one hundred percent.

Healthspan is built in that judgment. Knowing when to rest and when to keep going in a different way.
