Workout Week 2 – When life tries to steal consistency

After stepping away from Instagram at the end of 2025, I decided to document my ongoing 52 week health journey here instead. What used to live in stories and highlights now lives in words, photos, and reflection here on WordPress.

Week 2 was a good reminder of how quickly life fills the space of commitment and consistency.

Work, travel, schedules, and timing always find a way to test consistency. My brain is very good at offering excuses. You can do it tomorrow. Just skip this week. You will make it up later. None of those thoughts are wrong, but they are familiar. And familiar thoughts are often the ones that pull us off track.

The truth is, in the long view, missing once in a while does not matter much. If you show up enough times, the days you do not become a very small fraction of the whole. That perspective helps remove guilt, but it does not remove responsibility.

This week I traveled for work on Monday, which is normally one of my weight training days. Instead of skipping, I trained at home on Sunday with my NIKE Strength setup (I’ll post a full review about Nike strength and why I love it so much). During the week, instead of telling myself I needed a full gym or a barbell, I followed simple dumbbell programming. Nothing fancy. Just movement.

Anything is better than nothing. And that anything adds up to everything over time.

This idea shows up again and again. Small efforts compound. Incremental work matters. Our brains are outdated when it comes to this. They want all or nothing. They want perfect conditions. This week, I chose to play bigger than that.

I trained twice in the hotel gym with just dumbbells (Hevy App has been amazing helping me track my full gym workouts to suggesting exercises with no equipment. I’ll provide a review of this app as well in the future), which is about seventy five percent of my weekly commitment. 3 strength days plus 2 cardio is the goal, and I am still on track to finish strong as I head home. Technically my Sunday workout was my Monday workout so I’ll get four days in the gym this week. Furthermore, I was wrapping close to 155 to 165 last year probably this time and on Sunday I was wrapping 175 to 195 my one max test at the end of last year was 225. I feel good. I see progress. I can’t wait to continue the commitment.

More important than the numbers, I feel accountable. Grounded. Motivated.

These experiences continue to reinforce a belief I come back to often. Commitment and consistency are the foundation of health span. They are how we age well. They are how we stay strong, capable, and present for the long game.

Week 2 is in the books. Done and dusted.

I know that there are things that we don’t allow life to get in the way of the question is why those things are not others when we look inside ourselves and answer directly that question on anything that we say we want we never get sometimes the path becomes clear.

LFG.
